Cherrybark Oak
Quercus falcata var. pagodifolia
Cherrybark Oak is a high-value red oak in the South. It is larger and better formed than the southern red oak and commonly grows on moist soils. The heavier stronger wood makes it an excellent timber tree for furniture and interior finishes. Our photo is of the Indiana Champion tree.

Importance to Wildlife: Within their range, the acorns are a substantial part of the wildlife diet. The heaviest eaters are the gray squirrel, wild turkey, and blue jay.
Unique Information: Often called Spanish Oak, possibly because it commonly occurs in areas of the early Spanish colonies.
Native Range: Long Island and New Jersey south to N. Florida, west to E.Texas and north to S.Missouri; to 2500 Ft.
Habitat: Dry sandy loam and clay loam soils of uplands; in mixed forests.
Uses: A heavier, stronger wood, which makes it an excellent timber tree; it is used for furniture and interior finish.
